| Dr. Malachi Edwin Vethamani obtained a Bachelor of
Arts (Hons.) in English Literature and Master in Education in Teaching
English as a Second Language (TESL) from University of Malaya and
a doctorate in Literature in English from the University of Nottingham,
England. He is a recipient of the Chevening Award (1993-1996) and
the Fulbright Scholarship (2000). He is an Associate Professor at
the Faculty of Educational Studies, University Putra Malaysia. He
is Vice President of Asia TEFL. He was the President of the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association
(MELTA) from June 2001 till January 2008.
Dr. Vethamani has researched widely in the area of teaching literature
in English and Malaysian Literature in English. He has also written
many articles and essays in this area for both local and international
publications. He co-authored a work on multi-cultural reading of
literary texts entitled Now
Read On (London: Routledge, 1999). He published A Bibliography
of Malaysian Literature in English (Petaling Jaya: Sasbadi Publishers
Sdn. Bhd.) in 2001 and a compilation of the work of Malaysian poets
entitled In-Sights: Malaysian Poems (Petaling Jaya: Maya Press)
in 2003. His latest publication is Developments in Teaching of Literature
in English (Serdang: Universiti Putra Malaysia Press, 2004).
